Delivered new in Fribourg, Switzerland, this 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II was the 295th of just 502 homologation specials ever produced. Engineered to meet the stringent requirements of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM), the "Evo II" retained its predecessor's formidable 2.5-liter inline-four engine but was significantly enhanced with several high-performance upgrades.

At the heart of the Evo II's performance is its Cosworth Engineering-developed 16-valve twin-cam cylinder heads, now featuring the AMG Power Pack as standard. With revised camshaft profiles, a larger throttle body, a refined fuel management system, and an improved intake, the street version's output was boosted to an exhilarating 235 horsepower. These modifications allowed the race versions to deliver over 350 horsepower. To handle this impressive power, the Evo II was equipped with larger Brembo four-piston brakes and a more rigid suspension setup.

The Evo II's standout feature is its remarkable aerodynamic package, highlighted by the largest adjustable rear wing ever fitted to a Mercedes sedan. A peculiarity of the rules regulating the rear wing stated that it was not allowed to inhibit rearward visibility. As a result of this rule, the engineers elected to simply obstruct part of the rear window. By simply installing a panel over the rear window, the wing was no longer an obstruction and therefore allowed on the racing version.

Seeing relatively limited use, the Evo II was purchased by its second, and longest owner in April 1997 with approximately 30,000 kilometers or just under 19,000 miles. The car remained under their care for 20 years, until it was sold in 2017. During this time, the car covered nearly 140,000 additional kilometers with regular servicing and a refinish to the bodywork in its original Blue Black Metallic (199). The car was treated to a through servicing on 15 January 2023 costing just over 4,600€ where the fuel pumps, suspension accumulators, engine air filter, spark plugs, and steering damper were replaced in addition to changing the engine and gearbox oil.

Today, the car is offered with just under 169,000 kilometers or the equivalent of just under 105,000 miles. As a well-optioned car with a full complement of desirable options including the factory air conditioning, heated front seats, an electric sliding sunroof, an external temperature gauge, and rear-mounted loudspeakers, this car is the ideal candidate for continued guilt-free enjoyment of a rare homologation special.
