The Djet was designed in 1962 by Jacques Hubert under the René Bonnet name. It was intended as a civilian version of the CDs that had taken part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. From July 1966, the Matra Bonnet Djet 5 and Djet 5S became the Matra-Sports Jet 5 and Jet 6, dropping the Bonnet name and the D from Djet following the liquidation of Automobiles Bonnet and the end of its agreements with Matra Sports. 1967 saw the launch of the Jet 6, now powered by the 105bhp 1,255cc engine from the Renault 8 Gordini. This engine gave Matra a new lease of life, with peak performance of almost 200 km/h! Despite these developments, the Matra Djet struggled to sell and production was halted in 1968 after 1,693 examples had been sold, of which only 222 were Jet 6s.
The car offered for sale has been in the same family since 1979. The car is in beautiful original condition, with a nicely weathered interior. The exterior paintwork looks good. The original engine was replaced by an Alpine R5 engine of the same capacity. The brake system has been completely rebuilt. Our model also benefits from a stainless steel exhaust system, giving it a very beautiful sound. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a rare and atypical model from French motoring history.
