Description
First introduced in 1916, the Model 34 featured groundbreaking design elements for its time, including a painted radiator shell and non-louvered hood, while its lightweight construction and robust inline-six engine offered exceptional performance. Marmon cemented its reputation for excellence with notable achievements, such as winning the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911 with the legendary Marmon Wasp.
The 1923 Speedster offered here is a particularly distinguished example, remaining in the same family from 1960 until 2019, benefiting from decades of attentive care. In 1961, the car received a lacquer refinish, as well as upholstery work completed by Smithtown Auto Upholstery in New York. From 1961 to 1995, its dedicated owner meticulously maintained the car’s mechanical systems, preserving its usability and charm. During this period, it became a beloved local icon, featuring in annual Fourth of July parades.
In 1995, the car was carefully stored after illness prevented the owner from enjoying it, remaining untouched until its acquisition in 2019 by a prominent collector of prewar and Brass Era cars. Under current care, the consignor reports that the engine has been resealed with new gaskets and the fuel system restored, bringing the car up to running and driving condition, ensuring its legacy continues for years to come. This Model 34 Speedster offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of American motoring history.
*Please note that this vehicle is titled as 12313, which is the number stamped on the engine.
