Description
Guide price: £28000 - £32000.

A much loved and well-maintained mid-sixties Elan

Superb history file dating back to the late 1980s

Rare early Series 2 example

Upgraded with the focus on drivability

“To say that driving the Elan is immense fun is almost an understatement. It is a car which keeps young men young and makes old men younger “ "Motor"

The Lotus Elan features a very strong steel backbone chassis on which is mounted, like a saddle, a GRP body. It has 4-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension all round. Power is delivered from the famous Lotus 1558cc Twin Cam engine through a Ford 4-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. This results in a compliant ride and very nimble handling characteristics. The Elan has enjoyed significant success in motorsport since the days it was launched and is evident in large numbers in historic racing.

This early S2 Roadster has lived a busy life in the hands of its two enthusiastic owners since the late 1980s. Purchased by its previous owner in the mid-1980s, the car was subject to a complete overhaul which was finally completed in 1987 as is evident from the receipts in the extensive history file. Throughout his ownership, the car was very well maintained and constantly developed and we believe even used in some club racing events as is documented in the cars file. Acquired by our fanatic vendor in 2005, it has enjoyed a similar level of attention and care with regular maintenance and has been used for regular continental trips to the Le Mans Classic.

A well-used example, the little Lotus presents in decent condition but, aesthetically, there are areas of paintwork that have suffered from slight stretching, typical of fibreglass bodied cars.

This car represents the chance to acquire a rare early Lotus Elan that's eminently driveable and having been carefully enthusiast-maintained for years, is ready to hop in and drive down to your local, or maybe even Le Mans!
