Description
Lola T70 – 143 History
Originally built by Lola for the 1969 World Sportscar Championship, this car was delivered to Ecurie Bonnier and was raced over the following two seasons by Jo Bonnier and his proteges Reine Wissel, and Ronnie Peterson, as well sportscar champion Herbert Muller.
Chassis 143 raced with both a 5L Chevrolet, on one occasion a 5.7L engine and for the 1970 season in the Interserie the car was fitted with a big block 7 L engine. The car was retired after the 1970 season and remained in Bonnier’s hands until it was sold to Stefan Skelnar of Sweden in 1971, Skelnar also owned chassis 151 ( the ex Fillipinetti car) and at least one event entered both cars.
Bought from Skelnar by David Piper, the car sold to Welshman Tom Fletcher in the UK – in part exchange for a Lister Jaguar YOB1 in 1974.
Fletcher retained the car for many years and restored the car in 1998 (documented with photos). The car was sold to its current owner in 2008 and was restored by Colin Bennett (CGA) in 2010 – the car has been invited to numerous events in the last 10 years including Goodwood Members Meeting and is eligible for the world’s premier historic motorsport events.
