This is a largely original and sympathetically preserved 1965 Lincoln Continental Executive Limousine. With coachwork by Lehmann-Peterson, only 78 ever built, and the original crystal barware still in great condition, this Limo represents an era when cars of this caliber were reserved exclusively for the upper echelons of society.
Much of this Continental's early history is unknown, though it is rumored at one point Steve McQueen rode in it and was used to shuttle actresses to the academy awards. What is known for certain is that the current owner of this Lincoln purchased it eight years ago in Florida, added it to his collection in Los Angeles, and has only driven it about 1,500 miles since.
In its original beautiful shade of Black Satin (9000,9300) and eye-catching chrome work, this Continental still has a very prominent, presidential presence to it today. In fact, as is confirmed in the accompanying inspection report that the paint and body condition are overall very good to excellent. The paint has a nice shine and the body is straight which is not an easy task in a long vehicle like this with flat paneled sides. There is filler in the panels to get the car so straight, but it appears to have had well done preparation and body work prior to paint.
There is a dent in the lower part of the right rear door, but it is not noticeable without close inspection (shallow and approx. 5 inches long). It was also noted that there are a few, but inoffensive, small scratches and "dings" in the front chrome bumper. Meanwhile, the vinyl top is in very good shape, free of any signs of rust or bubbling, and makes the car look sharp. A rust free undercarriage is another plus.
The interior is in overall good condition for its age. The most striking feature of the interior is undoubtedly the retractable illuminated minibar, complete original crystal decanter set and barware. It takes about 15 seconds to open and close. The rear seating area is in an era appropriate grey cloth, while the front seats are in a simple, but attractive, black vinyl. The condition of all seating is good. The fabric materials themselves are clean and intact, but it was noted the seat bottom cushions are a little loose. A stain in the headliner was observed, as well minor signs of wear on the door panels. The window switches can be finicky. The inspection report notes the window is stuck down, but the owner has informed us otherwise. This Limo has an updated sound system with speakers throughout, which we're told sound great and can accept input from Bluetooth or phone. A few additional interior imperfections were noted in the inspection report, but nothing we felt was in need of serious attention.
Mechanically this Continental is in good running condition and it drives surprisingly well. This Lincoln has more than adequate power from the 460 V8 and ride quality is very smooth. Steering is as most cars like this: very light, over-boosted, but accurate. All accessories work except the AC which does not blow cold. The odometer currently says 28,272, however the owner is unsure if that is original or not. With that being said, the owner has repeatedly told us he would very confidently drive this Lincoln from LA to our showroom in Phoenix.... that is if got more than 10mpg! But in all seriousness, the mechanical condition and drivability of this limo checked out very well.
Overall, this is a solid driving, extremely presentable Lincoln Continental which could benefit from some minor interior work to make it really excellent. For full details on the condition of this Lincoln, please see the attached Inspection Report.
