Description

When it came time for Lincoln to develop the fourth-generation Continental, it was clear that the company needed to simplify the offering. After overdeveloping the prior generation, Lincoln required something more cost-effective to build while still stirring enthusiasm among its devoted clientele. Debuting in 1961, the fourth-generation Continental was offered in four-door sedan and four-door convertible styles. Due to its smaller size, the only way to make four doors work was by utilizing rear-hinged doors, which became a hallmark of the model.

This 1963 Continental is finished in black with a black interior and has been under the care of the consignor since 2017. The year 1963 saw previously optional features become standard, and an increased compression ratio and new exhaust raised power from 300 to 320 hp. An attractive driver-quality example, this Continental Convertible features power steering, air-conditioning, and power front seats. A previous description on file also mentions that during prior ownership, the power top’s hydraulic mechanisms were rebuilt by expert John Cashman, and a top repair and adjustment manual accompanies the car at auction.

The fourth-generation Continental is one of the most recognizable of all automotive silhouettes and this example is stunning in its black on black livery. With its combination of luxury, style, and open-air motoring, it is sure to bring all those fortunate enough to experience it back to a simpler time.
