Description

Chassis No. 8H181983

Body No. 876H571224

Post-World War II production of the Lincoln Continental resumed in 1946, dropping the Zephyr name and dawning new bumpers and trim including a "mouth organ" front grille. A choice of leather or custom cloth lined the opulent Continental interiors, complemented by new chrome-plated dashboard trim, a restyled instrument panel, and pocket-type armrests for 1947. With the 1949 model line already in development for the newly formed Lincoln-Mercury Division, 1948 would be the last model year of the Lincoln Continental for eight years, and the last car produced and sold by a major U.S. automaker with a V12 engine. Recognized as a "Full Classic" by the Classic Car Club of America, first-generation Lincoln Continentals continue to be sought after by collectors for their attractive styling and exclusivity, with only 847 Coupes built in 1948.

Completed 3 February 1948, this attractive Coupe wears a classic dark blue exterior complemented by a beautifully restored blue cloth-upholstered interior. The extravagant Art Deco dashboard arrangement features a large 110 mile per hour speedometer, a chrome radio, and an electric clock. The underside and engine compartment present nicely for an older restoration, matching the well-preserved exterior. The restored brightwork and exterior trim are in fine condition throughout, while period-correct whitewall tires, polished wheel covers, and an enclosed Continental spare perfectly complement the stately Continental aesthetic. Complete with a digital copy of the original build card provided by the Benson Ford Research Center, a large assortment of reproduction factory literature and manuals, a tool kit, and jack, this Continental would make a fine companion on leisurely weekend cruises or CCCA CARavans.
