The first-generation Range Rover was produced between 1970 and 1996. The original car was not designed as a luxury-type 4x4; while certainly up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had fairly basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards designed to be washed down with a hose. Features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth/leather seats and wooden interior trim were fitted later. The Range Rover was a body-on-frame design with a box section ladder type chassis similar to contemporary Land Rovers. The Range Rover utilised coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanent four-wheel drive and four-wheel disc brakes and was originally powered by the Rover V8 engine.

This automatic Vogue SE example presented in Beluga Black was first registered on 26th January 1989 with a 3.9 litre V8 engine. The original car however is a very small part of this examples story as it has undergone a restoration spanning a two-year period with supporting documentation. Upon deciding on the restoration program our vendor had the body removed from the chassis before the bodywork was subject to substantial structural repairs including (but not limited to) full new front end from the bulkhead forward, inner wings, headlamp boxes and battery trays, new footwells, inner and outer sills, replacement rear crossmember, new footwells, rear inner arches and replacement boot floor panels. The chassis was stripped bare, blasted, treated and painted so that the full underside of the body was properly restored before seam sealed and waxoyled following all work. It is also noted all body panels were painted off the vehicle before being refitted.

Mechanically, the gearbox was rebuilt by Ashcroft transmissions, and under the bonnet the car was treated to a top end engine rebuild. Vast amounts have been spent including replacement of all brake and fuel lines indeed an overhaul of full braking system including calipers, discs, pads and flex hoses which have been replaced then coupled to new abs accumulator and pump. The fuel system has been renewed including new tank, pump and all associated ancillaries. All injectors have been replaced as have filters etc. and a new plenum chamber and gaskets fitted with replacement plugs and leads.

New shock absorbers and lowering springs have been fitted with fresh bushes and bump stops and tie rod ends alongside new body mounts all round and axles refurbished before rounding off with four new period correct Goodyear tyres with alloy wheels all diamond cut as new.

There have also been a multitude of wiring repairs and upgrades, electric seat motors have been rebuilt (a common and expensive issue), the interior has been fully retrimmed in tan leather including all door cards leather trimmed and fresh custom black carpets with contrasting piping fitted before the headlining was recovered.

A labour of love which started as an idea during covid the build cost along would be far in excess of the value. An example of the iconic 'daddy' of the now luxury SUV. Consigned by Mathew Priddy

Sales room notice: Interested parties should note, the V5 for this car has been misplaced and is not supplied with the car, a new V5 will need to be applied for with a V55/5 by the new owner when purchased. This example though fully restored does require a little fettling and running in due to its very recent completion.
