Description
"The first-generation Range Rover was produced between 1970 and 1996. The original car was not designed as a luxury 4x4; whilst certainly up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had fairly basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards that were designed to be washed down with a hose. Convenience features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors; air conditioning, cloth/leather seats and wooden interior trim were fitted later in the production run. The Range Rover also served as the base for specialist utility vehicles including fire engines and command centres for the army and police. Marketed as 'A Car For All Reasons', the Range Rover was more capable off-road than the Land Rover but was much more comfortable, offering a top speed in excess of 100mph.
This particular example was originally supplied to Belgium and the British Motor Heritage Trust Certificate confirms it was originally painted in the very desirable Sahara Dust colour, which it still wears today, and our vendor believes most of the paint is original. Being a late 1979 car, this Range Rover is a Suffix G, which was the final iteration of 1970’s Range Rover’s and was the result of nearly a decade of continuous development. This Range Rover appears to be a very original example which would benefit from some recommissioning and would then be an ideal classic to take to the continent. "
