"Right from the beginning, the Range Rover represented something of a lifestyle movement. Although considered rudimentary by today’s standards, the ‘Suffix A’ was billed as a ‘Four-In-One’ car. It was a luxury car, a performance car, an estate and, of course, a cross-country car. They were launched with the ubiquitous Rover V8 engine which delivered 135bhp but, more importantly, 185lb/ft of torque. Various improvements were made through the suffixes (A-F) with the 1976 suffix D benefitting from improved carburettors, interior lighting in the headlining and more luxurious carpeting on the transmission tunnel.
This matching numbers ‘D’ suffix two-door Range Rover was delivered new to its new owner through Henlys of Bristol in September 1975 and was initially serviced by Henlys and Dutton Forshaw. It changed hands at 32,000 miles and again at 49,000 miles in December 1983 when purchased by the previous owner. However, this wonderful and original 4X4, on its original chassis, has recently undergone a total 1,000 hour, nut and bolt restoration carried out by Windsor Classics. The interior was brought back to life by marque specialist Nationwide Trimmers who tried where possible to retain the original seats and various other original items where necessary cosmetically in keeping with its heritage. Its original V8 engine was subsequently taken out, stripped and rebuilt then re-installed.
The vehicle is now absolutely superb, representing all that it became famous for when first manufactured and it comes with a Heritage Certificate. These were undoubtably the best 4X4 produced, creating a vehicle where the occupants felt at home on a farm, in a field, or indeed heading out for a night out! Fully restored Range Rovers such as this come with a two year waiting list and are highly sought after, and this superb one in white is available to be driven away now! It is surely a wonderful investment which could be kept as part of a collection or used as daily mode of transport.
