Graceful, elegant, discreet, one of the symbols of an era, the Lancia Flaminia Coupé was one of the most popular Grand Tourers on the market at the time. Needing to find a successor to the splendid Aurelia B20, Lancia delegated the major coachbuilders of the time, Pininfarina, Touring and Zagato, to design their respective versions of the new Lancia coupé. Based on the Flaminia berlina floorpan shortened by 12 centimetres, the 3C GT was Carrozzeria Touring's proposal on the prestigious Turin chassis. Presented in 1958 at the Turin motor show, it differed from the production version not only in its shortened wheelbase but also in a more powerful engine and gearbox and axle ratios that favoured a sportier drive. Actor Marcello Mastroianni, a true icon of the 1960s, was one of those personalities who best appreciated this extraordinary car and to whom he unconsciously linked his image. An estimated 600 2.5 3C GTs were produced by Touring from January 1962 to September 1963, making this a rare and highly prestigious model.
It was the car of choice for customers who did not want to be chauffeur-driven or who did not want to drive around in the more emblazoned Ferraris or Maseratis. Discreet but it became an admirable example of Italian-style elegance with a distinctly sporty character. The second series of the Flaminia GT Touring benefited from three twin-bodied carburettors, raising power to 140 horsepower, a respectable output for the time.
Produced in 1963, this 2.5 3C GT is one of the best examples around today. It retains its original Naples first registration plates and its history is traced from new. This particular one was registered to Nike for years, then passed from father to son, then with few owners and always remained in Italy. The current owner bought this Flaminia in 2019 and carried out many mechanical works, which were completed in 2022 and included:
- Completely rebuilt engine with replacement
- New bank and shaft bushings
- Shaft rebalancing
- New piston rings
- New pistons
- New liners
- Shot Peening and Head Overhaul
- New valve seats
- New valves
- Perfect compression ratio
- Complete overhaul of carburettors
- New radiator with rubber still in place as per photo
Iconic, beautiful to use and a true masterpiece of Italian style, this Flaminia remains as much a connoisseur's choice today as it was then. Usable for events as well as out-of-town trips, it is one of the finest examples of Italian-style GT in circulation today.
