Making its debut in 1987, Lancia’s fearsome Delta HF Group A dominated the world’s rally stages. At the hands of Juha Kankkunen and Miki Biasion, the model delivered four back-to-back World Drivers’ Championships for the Italian marque, contributing to an unbroken run of six Manufacturers’ titles by the time the firm stepped away from rallying in 1992.
The Jolly Club continued to fly the flag for the Delta HF in top-flight competition, but even with 1992 champion Carlos Sainz joining its ranks, the privateer outfit and the ageing Lancia were no match for the well-funded challenge from Ford, Toyota, and an emerging Subaru. However, any disappointment at the team’s performance was outweighed by a significant fringe benefit: that the Delta’s continuing presence in Group A rallying necessitated the sale of road-going homologation examples.
The 212 brake-horsepower Evoluzione II of 1993 was the final and most desirable road-going incarnation, with some 4,223 examples leaving the firm’s Maggiora factory by November 1994. Of these, the “Giallo Ginestra”—a limited edition run of 220 cars finished in the colour of the same name and with Alcantara-trimmed Recaro seats—was one of the most sought-after variants.
This home-market example is one of those special cars. First registered in Italy on 19 April 1994, it was imported to France in April 2011 and was acquired by The Road and Track Collection in May 2017. Presenting in its factory configuration and in outstanding condition, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the rarest versions of an Italian motorsport icon.
