Introduced in 1979, the Lancia Delta is a saloon with bodywork by Giugiaro. The design was so balanced that it remained virtually unchanged throughout the Delta's life.
It was in 1986 that the Delta gained in interest with the appearance of the HF 4wd, which combined 4-wheel drive with a powerful engine. This version appeared just in time to replace the Delta S4 in rallying, which had been condemned by the Group B ruling. In 1987, it was replaced by a more powerful Delta Intégrale, then by the Intégrale 16s in 1989.
The Delta Integrales dominated the Manufacturers' World Rally Championship from 1987 to 1992, winning 6 World Championship titles. The secret of the brand's victories was the constant evolution of the civilian versions, to remain competitive on rally stages.
The civil version we are offering, a Delta Intégrale HF 16 S, benefits from Lancia's experience in competition. The 2-litre turbo with 16-valve cylinder head develops 200 bhp at 5,500 rpm. The Garret T3 turbo eliminates the ‘lag’ effect typical of turbo engines of the time. The progressive, linear engine response now approaches that of a naturally-aspirated engine. The lines are even more aggressive than those of the Intégrale 8 S, thanks to a lowered stance, wide tyres, a larger bonnet and the addition of air intakes at the front.
Our car was delivered new on 13 December 1989 by the Gremeau garage in Chenove to its first owner, Mr Ménétrier. Mr Ménétrier kept the car until 2001, when it was sold through the brand's network. Also in 2001, the car changed hands and remained in Chenove. The second owners kept it until 2008. In 2010, the car was acquired by an enthusiast from the Yonne region. He fitted the car with a front bumper and a spoiler identical to those fitted to factory WRC Delta cars. The car then received a new paint finish and the various black components were repainted in the same colour as the bodywork.
In 2020, the car entered the collection of its current owner. He will maintain it in his workshop. Recently serviced, this Delta still offers exceptional performance more than 30 years after leaving the factory. In good overall condition, this car is a rallying legend, waiting to be driven by you.
