In 1985, Lamborghini proudly presented their successor to the Countach: the all-new Lamborghini Diablo. As is usually the case with Lamborghini, a name from bullfighting was chosen. Diablo was a bull from the 19th century that became famous after winning a big fight against its toreador. Not entirely coincidentally, Diablo also means “Devil” in Spanish. The Diablo was an outright hit, over the years no less than 13 different street versions of this model were built. Yet to this day, one of the most coveted versions of this legendary car remains the SV, better known as the “Superveloce” or in Italian “Super fast.
The SV is distinguished by impressive power, increased from 485 to 530 hp, driven through the rear wheels, lighter overall weight, faster acceleration time, more aggressive styling with a large spoiler, a special OZ Racing 2-piece wheel set and several small SV logos.
Production of the Diablo is rather limited, over a production span of more than 10 years, no more than 2,884 cars were built. However, the SV version is even more rare, only 346 of these were produced worldwide!
This 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV is one of the most special that the Diablo line has to offer. This example was originally delivered by an official Lamborghini dealer in Monte Carlo, the capital for exclusive cars. This Diablo SV is stylishly composed in beautiful pearl white over black leather. This beautiful color combination is further finished off by tasteful details such as matching black painted brake calipers and subtle stitched SV logos in the headrests. Furthermore, the car is equipped with central locking, front fog lights, a radio and air conditioning.
Exterior accents include a cool “Jota-style” dual hoodscoop, several SV logos, 18” chrome OZ Racing rims, a visible aluminum fuel cap and a large adjustable rear wing that was optionally sprayed in pearl white.
Inside, it looks like the car was never driven. All interior parts are in exquisite condition; the seats show no sign of use or wear, and the steering wheel and manual shifter are also in excellent condition.
Driving this Diablo SV is much easier than you might think. The driving position feels excellent, the 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and the overall handling is downright impressive. The controls are not heavy, keeping driving comfortable and enjoyable. The presence of power steering only adds to the ease of use here.
In no time, the 5.7L V12 engine awakens with a powerful roar. At low revs, it delivers enough torque for a quiet tour through town, making driving particularly pleasant. When the revs start to rise, the V12 engine responds immediately through its quick throttle response and the deep rumble increases to a maximum of 7500 TPM or a top speed of up to 320 km/h!
The combination of looks, rarity, history and this Diablo's progressive place in the Lamborghini empire make this magnificent SV the ultimate acquisition for any collection!
