Description

Well-known for its cutting-edge performance and styling, Lamborghini is no stranger to limited editions and one-offs. By 2010, the marque was nearing the end of production for the highly regarded Gallardo, and its LP570-4 Superleggera variant was a high-performance model that emphasized weight reduction and stout performance. It featured a 5.2-liter V-10 engine producing 570 hp, along with all-wheel drive, making it a track-focused marvel known for its blistering acceleration and precise handling.

To celebrate the 95th anniversary of the storied Italian design house Zagato, the Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2014. This collaboration, like many of Zagato’s previous creations, was spurred by the request of a client and used the LP570-4 Superleggera as its basis. Commissioned by Swiss-based collector Albert Spiess, the 5-95 Zagato featured a radical and avant-garde design, which departed from the angular lines typical of Lamborghini. Instead, it featured smooth, flowing curves and Zagato’s hallmark double-bubble “floating” roof, providing a unique aerodynamic silhouette. The body, crafted from lightweight carbon fiber, also featured a unique roof-mounted scoop and revised front and rear grille design. It retained the performance attributes of its donor car, housing the same potent 5.2-liter V-10 engine, with a top speed of over 200 mph. Only nine production examples would be built, including one spider, with a price of around $1,000,000, including the donor car. Each of these were highly tailored to the specifications of the discerning collectors who these special cars were offered to.

This particular 5-95 was commissioned by its current owner in 2013. The donor car, a Grigio Lynx LP570-4 Superleggera, was sourced from Lamborghini Houston and shipped directly to Milan for its redesign. A lengthy coachbuilding exercise, the Gallardo was finished in a special shade of yellow, while its interior was re-trimmed in light gray with accenting yellow stitching. In the care of the consignor, the 5-95 has remained in his esteemed collection in climate-controlled storage and service records remain on file.

Displaying a mere 1,115 miles at the time of cataloguing, this 5-95 Zagato is the first ever public offering of the exclusive Zagato model. It is accompanied by purchase documents and several images taken throughout the coachbuilding process. With the highly regarded Gallardo now out of production for over 10 years, this may truly be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase a distinctive, avant-garde motorcar that honors Lamborghini and Zagato’s collaboration, a partnership that will celebrate its 60th year in 2025.
