Description

The Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2, launched in 1965, was based on the 350 GT, Lamborghini’s first production car. This one was made in 1966.
Various aspects of the 350 GT were improved to create the 400 GT and it was highly praised by enthusiasts. The body was designed by Carrozzeria Touring but despite its popularity, production lasted only two years and only 247 were built.
This car is a particularly remarkable 400 GT, as it has been certified by ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano), an organisation that focuses on protecting the cultural heritage of cars in Italy. The car is in excellent condition.
At the time, Ferrari's cars were essentially race cars for the road meaning comfort and convenience were compromised. Lamborghini Ferruccio, the founder of Lamborghini, saw the issue with Ferraris as an opportunity and set out to create a Gran Turismo that would be high performance, elegant and comfortable over long distances.
In 1964, Lamborghini presented to the world their first production car, the 350 GT, a car that could easily rival Ferrari with its V12 making 270hp and a beautiful Carrozzeria Touring designed body. The easy to drive car was exactly what Ferruccio claimed he would create and Lamborghini would quickly become known around the world as an up-and-coming luxury car manufacturer.
In 1996 the 400 GT was launched as a perfected 350 GT. The displacement of the V12 engine was increased to 4-litres and power increased to 320 hp. In addition, the body was changed from aluminium alloy to steel, this increased the weight of the car, but gave it greater rigidity which improved ride quality. Practicality was also further improved with the introduction of a 2+2 model, these improvements elevated the car above their great rivals, Ferrari.
This is a piece of automotive history that embodies Ferruccio Lamborghini’s ideals, it’s a car that should be owned by someone who can appreciate this.
