Description

The Jensen Interceptor was launched in 1966 and the all-steel bodyshell broke away from the company's traditional method of construction that used GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic). Designed by Carrozzeria Touring, the early cars were built by Vignale before production eventually was carried out at the Jensen works in West Bromwich. Power was delivered by the Chrysler 6276cc, V8 through a TorqueFlite automatic transmission and final drive being a Salisbury axle with limited slip differential. A manual gearbox was offered as an option. 1968 saw the addition of power steering and, in 1969, the Mk. II was introduced with detail upgrades that included a revised front end and ventilated disc brakes. 1971 saw the introduction of the Mk. III; the engine size was increased to 7212cc and, it was at this time, the most powerful engine Jensen had produced. The imposing presence, power and distinctive shape that included the wrap around glass rear hatch drew the rich and famous to the marque and famously, Princess Anne owned one. Production ceased in 1976 with a total of 6408 Mk. I, Mk. II and Mk. III Interceptors built between 1966 and 1976.

Built in 1973 and first registration on 1st May 1974, this wonderful metallic burgundy matching numbers Mk. III Interceptor was purchased by our vendor in 2024 from its long-term owner, a Jensen Club member. The car has always been garaged and used sparingly but sadly due to ill health, our vendor is no longer able to drive the car and it must be sold. The car itself is in very good order with a deep metallic paint finish that has seen little ill effect since its body restoration in the late 90's. Boasting a thunderous 7.2 litre V8, power steering, automatic gearbox and period correct features including Carter Thermoquad carburettor, original air cleaner and rocker covers.

The comprehensive history file provides us with build records and first owner details. A recent 'light recommissioning' was carried out in 2024 and the car has been used very little of late, mainly for shows and events. Since its restoration and benefitted in 2009 from a full retrim in soft black leather and lambswool seat inserts. Factory extras included electric windows, full leather seats, air conditioning, chrome door seal trims and chrome kick plates. More recent works include a replacement fuel pump and renewal of the rear pinion seal coupled to a recent vehicle check and MoT test certificate.

The engine rumbles beautifully and started first time when viewed, an effortless engine with a smooth and fabulous soundtrack coupled to the Torqueflite three speed automatic gearbox. Luxurious, but with a characteristically sporty feel, the interior of the Interceptor provides a fantastic driving experience and the Jensen Owners' Club is one of the friendliest around for assistance with maintenance and driving opportunities. This Jensen is not only well priced but we feel very well maintained and presented with viewing is highly recommended. Consigned by Mathew Priddy.
