Description
The XK120 Drop Head Coupé is without doubt the perfect mix of open top motoring and usability. The hood in beautiful mohair is easy to open and close, without complicated constructions and bad fittings. Being an XK120, it still has the pure looks with tiny bumpers and a limited use of chrome.
This particular car is build in 1954, and has the C-Type head from new, which gives 190 bhp instead of the normal 160 bhp of the standard engine. After a ground-up restoration from 2016 until 2019 (documented with photographs), this XK120 is used until now by the previous Belgian owner. The car has received some improvements to accommodate taller drivers (which is a typical concern on the XK120) :
fitting of a pedal box and removing the battery from the original location behind the seats to the engine compartment (as in the XK140) to allow more travel for the seats. Also the fitting of original Jaguar XK bucket seats creates some more space inside. And the result is clear : this must be the most comfortable XK120 I ever sat in. The interior is beautifully retrimmed in tan leather, and the hood fits perfectly. The shutlines are very good for an XK120, and the body panels are as straight as it should be. The British Racing Green paintwork emphasizes the magnificent quality level of the restoration.
Driving this XK120 is a real pleasure with its torquey straight six engine and glorious soundtrack. The improved driving position is great, and adds a whole new dimension to the XK120 driving experience. This example still has the original full matching nrs engine and gearbox, which only makes it even more desirable. The very British and stylish colour combination suits the car really well, and inside it feels all very luxurious and posh with a perfect combination of soft leather, wool carpet and burr walnut panels.
This wonderful Jaguar is the perfect car to participate in all kinds of historic rallies, or just for the relaxing sunday afternoon ride. If you are looking for a proper fifties convertible with pedigree, then this is the one. A sound investment, as XK's keep their value very well, and on top of that a great driving car with the perfect looks !
