Description
Heir to the historic XJ6 that debuted at the 1968 Paris Motor Show, the Jaguar XJ (X308) is a full-size luxury sedan produced and marketed by Jaguar Cars from 1997-2003 across two generations and featuring the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine and Jaguar's independent rear suspension. It was the third and final evolution of the Jaguar XJ40 (XJ Series IV) platform, in production since 1986. It was preceded by the Jaguar XJ (X300).
The X308 retained much of the exterior styling of its predecessor, the Jaguar XJ (X300), with its rounded bonnet with four headlights, low roofline, sloping tail and wraparound rear light clusters. At the front, the two generations are distinguished by the shape of the turn signals (rectangular on the X300, oval on the X308), as well as the shape of the fog lamps and the bumper air intake, both of which are more rounded on the X308. The front and rear bumpers have been modified, as have the taillights, which have light red instead of red/grey lenses. The grille surround and lettering were slightly modified. The headlights also included front parking lights, which were incorporated into the position lights, a first for the X308. At the base of the new range was the XJ8 3.2 (3,249 cm³, 237 bhp), while at the top was the sportier 4.0 Supercharged version, marketed as the XJR, as a tribute to the many competition models. It mounted a volumetric supercharger (3,996 cm³, 363 hp). In between was the aspirated 4.0 (3,996 cm³, 284 hp). As always, the trims were Standard (3.2 only), Sport (3.2 and 4.0 in the USA Executive) and Sovereign (3.2 and 4.0 also in LWB extended wheelbase versions) and XJR (4.0 Supercharged).
The example we are offering belongs to a large collection of Jaguars, perfectly running, but has not been used for a few years, regularly driven and moved so as not to ovulate the tyres. In excellent overall condition it is just waiting to be unleashed on the road in all its elegance and at the same time sporty grit with its generous 363hp Supercharged V8 engine.
