Description

Grace…Space…and Pace.

Presented at the 1948 London Motor Show, alongside the revolutionary XK 120, the Mark V was the first Jaguar to be available as a left-hand drive car in order to appeal to American customers. Available as both a four-door Saloon (sedan) and a two-door convertible known as the Drop Head Coupé, both versions seating five adults.

Using a new - very rigid- Jaguar designed chassis with independent front suspension, hydraulically controlled brakes and with the existing pushrod 6-cylinder engines, the sculptured body was styled like the prewar cars but with flowing wings, flared in headlights and a better standard of trim.

At the same time, the MK V was the car that was used to launch that famous Jaguar slogan – “Grace…Space…and Pace” which has been hailed as one of the five most inspirational car slogans of all time.

This particular Jaguar MK V DHC certainly lives up to that reputation !

Chassis #547012 was hand built on 8th November 1950 and is the last of only 12 LHD cars equipped with the 2664cc engine. On account of its rarity, ‘Noble House Classics’ (Netherlands) acknowledged it’s value and took the MK V in as a project.
10 Years later however, a customer bought over the project and authorized a concours-condition restoration. The final result didn’t see the daylight until the end of 2001 after which the car won a prize at it’s first concours d'elegance. Not surprising if you know that it is accompanied by +200,000 euros of invoices.

According to the vehicle information sheet, it was originally finished in Gunmetal over a red interior. Although no choice was made to respect the original exterior color at the time, we can only note that the 'Navy Blue' color suits the red upholstery extremely well as the photos clearly show here!

The clever three-position soft top allows the car to be driven in an open, milord configuration for concours d'elegance or closed for interior driving. The Mark V transports its passengers in remarkable comfort, with top-notch handling for its time and British refinement.
