Jaguar is known for its sporty, distinguished vehicles. But let's not forget that this brand has also long shone in the segment of imposing luxury sedans, first with the Mark VII, the Mark VIII and then the Mark IX. The Mark IX was produced from 1959 to 1961. It remains very similar to the Mark VIII, borrowing its bodywork. The main distinguishing feature is the use of a chrome Mark IX logo, visible on the rear trunk. But also with wider taillights, visually similar to the Mark II. New mechanical elements distinguish this version from the VII and VIII series. In addition to the power steering introduced a few years ago, Jaguar now equips its vehicles with disc brakes. This was a major innovation for its time, and gave the Mark IX an excellent reputation. Another major change was the new 3.8-liter block that now equipped this car, an engine that would make the brand's reputation.
The example we offer is a rare version equipped with the 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Equipped with driver separation, we've been able to trace its history back to 1974, when it was acquired by an enthusiast in Essonne. He kept it until 1981, when it changed hands. In the early 90s, it became the property of Bernard Viart, who undertook its restoration, as can be seen from the photo file dating from 1993. In the early 2000s, it was acquired by its current owner, an enthusiast and collector of the brand. He will have it serviced by the ARES workshops, and will undertake a major project in 2015.
The mechanics were removed for waterproofing, and the clutch and overdrive were replaced. As for the running gear, the steering rods have been replaced and the brakes rebuilt. Finally, an electric power steering system was installed.
Today, this MK IX is in fine overall condition.
