1964 Jaguar Mark IIChassis Number – J64222752Engine Number – LC6524-9Exterior Color –BlueInterior Color – Blue LeatherEngine – 3.8 Liter DOHC in-line six-cylinder engineGearbox – 4-speed manual with overdriveCurrent Kilometers – 15,094 kms General HistoryThroughout much of their respected history, Jaguar has been known for building superb sports cars and purpose-built racecars. Yet, Jaguar also led the industry building one of the first luxury-sport sedans. Originally developed in 1956 as the Mark I, the new but classic styling delivered surprisingly strong performance at a respectable price. Over the years, the low-profile body design was greatly refined, and mechanical specifications enhanced, resulting, by 1959, in the Mark II. The Mark II sedan was offered with either engine options, but the premium series was the 3.8-liter engine. With more horsepower than the smaller capacity 3.4-liter engine, the larger unit offered greater torque and very capable highway manners. Refined braking, luxury seating, ample visibility, and fantastic storage all resulted in a smartly configured package. True to their heritage, the Mark II would further prove successful in saloon car racing and find considerable use as British high-speed police cars. Today these elegant sedans are sought after for the same reasons as when they were new - excellent road manners and performance capability, offered in a timeless saloon configuration.History of this JaguarAccording to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate prepared in 1999, this particular example was built May 2, 1963, dispatched May 13, 1963, and delivered through distributor Jaguar Cars, New York. Originally finished in Silver Blue with Dark Blue interior, the car remained in sound original condition under original Los Angeles, CA ownership when it was delivered to Autocats, Essex, UK that same year for a comprehensive restoration outlined in the January 1999 fax transmittal for services to be performed. Work included stripping paint, repair, and repaint for the body, total rebuild for the engine including balancing and conversion to lead-free fuel, fitting an all-synchromesh transmission with overdrive, new brake wheel cylinders, pads, master cylinder, servo, and pipework (brake lines), new headliner, carpets, restored instruments, door panels, Furflex, restored wood, and leather. New wiring, battery, starter and generator were also included along with conversion to rack and pinion steering with power assist and Harvey Bailey coil spring and Spax shock conversion. The overview further notes air conditioning with heavy duty alternator and charged hydraulic pump for power steering, inertial reel dual rear seat belts and fixed center belt, and heat insulating material in place of carpet underfelt for the left side of the cabin. Upon completion, the car was delivered to the owner in Canada (Kph speedometer installed along with hazard light per Canadian requirements) where the car would go on to win several awards when shown at events. In 2000 the car was fitted with a Pioneer CD stereo system, speakers, and antenna. The next owner purchased the car in 2001 and in 2003, an electrical fire in the dash was quickly snuffed but required electrical repairs performed to a high standard replacing components and damaged wiring. Services continued through 2006 with regular fluid changes and component replacements including a new water pump, new front shocks, and a new alternator bearing. In 2008 the cylinder head was removed and the bottom end rebuilt including new main bearings, piston rings, and a new clutch. Ongoing service invoices continued under the same owner with regular fluid changes, annual services including a new exhaust in 2016 with brake service and left axle replacement in 2021. In 2021 the car was purchased by the current owner who continued to service the car with the same care and attention to detail recorded in invoices dating back to 2000. In 2022 front calipers were rebuilt, control arms replaced, new suspension bushings installed, new front discs installed, new Vredestein tires installed, and new front shock absorbers fitted. A hand-written ledger of expenses from 2002-2017 total over $87,000.00 further including over $56,000 in restoration which totals over $140,000 invested in the restoration and ongoing serviced performed on this beautifully presented Jaguar. Current ConditionToday, this Jaguar car presents in captivating stock appearance with excellent metallic blue paint retaining a high gloss finish and smooth coverage. The quality of the restoration has endured remarkably well as the finishes still present quite well considering 25 years have lapsed since the restoration was completed. The body is exceptionally straight with excellent panel fit and smooth operation opening and closing all doors, hood, and trunk. A gorgeous set of chrome plated wire wheels wear a matched set of Vredestein Sprint Classic 185 R15 tires which add to the sporting nature of this saloon. The exterior trim, lenses, and glass are all in very good to excellent condition featuring the expansive glass area which gives these saloons notable visibility. Chrome plating is in excellent condition throughout the car with an exceptionally nice grille, emblems, and Jaguar script. The interior is excellent overall, with the leather seating displaying only mild patina to the driver’s seat. All leather surfaces remain supple, evenly finished, and very clean, especially the rear seat, which appears nearly unused. The lush blue carpeting is in very nice condition with mild use evident in the front footwells. The door panels and headliner are also in excellent condition. The wood surfaces are stunning with glossy varnish highlighting the rich burling detail. The instruments and switches are excellent throughout and correct in appearance with the entire dashboard presenting very cohesively, further enhanced by a beautiful, authentic Derrington wood rimmed steering wheel with column adjustment for in and out positioning, reflecting the performance heritage of this saloon. The engine compartment is both clean and attractive, having been correctly finished with polished aluminum engine components, proper fasteners and hardware, correct hoses, and a correctly finished stock air cleaner housing. The matching number dual overhead cam head and block both correspond to the numbers on both the Heritage Certificate and data plate. As an added feature during mechanical services, a protected remote starter is installed which will allow a mechanic to perform test starts while servicing. The trunk is stock in appearance with nice interior finishes, correct upholstery, and excellent detailing including an original tool set in the spare tire recess. The undercarriage is solid and represents updates including stainless steel exhaust, rack and pinion steering, and more recent Koni shock absorbers. The underside reflects refined workmanship, proper care, and cleanliness consistent with the presentation of the entire car. Driving this car is an excellent reminder of the refined ride and motoring comfort offered in these Saloons. The engine is well tuned and responds well when shifting the column mounted 4-speed transmission lever. An electric thermostatically controlled cooling fan provides added cooling which the owner reports has kept the car running very well even in warm outdoor conditions. The car accelerates smoothly and pulls strong with excellent road manners at high speeds with confident cornering and relaxed highway ride when in overdrive, which also reduces engine speed by 500 rpm at speeds over 40 mph. The brakes have very good response in keeping with vintage cars of this era. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a wonderful Mark II with many desirable attributes and important upgrades enhancing the driving experience. Beautifully restored to high standards, the restoration continues to impress with vintage charm and luxury. This Jaguar Mark II is ready to deliver delightful ownership and pleasurable driving experiences as only a suitably outfitted Jaguar Saloon can offer.Items included with this JaguarThis Jaguar is accompanied by a Jaguar MPH speedometer, correct jack, spare tire tool kit with factory tools, knock off spanner, numerous spare parts, a robust file of records and receipts dating back to 1999, and an assortment of books and correct accessory service literature.
