According to sir William Lyons, well known as mister Jaguar is the MKII the maxim of grace, pace and space. Nowadays it is known as one of the nicest saloons which are classic but are very usable on a daily base as well.

The MKII has two faces, one face shows a very fast sport saloon which make the car very attracting during its years for the police as well as for the thieves (think of the movies from Get Carter with Michael Caine and off-course inspector Morse). The other face showed an extremely comfortable, representative car which was mainly used as a business car for the upper-class. The space inside, the way of sitting in the chairs, the looks, but above all the way of driving make the Jaguar one of the greatest saloons to have in a collection.

Approximately 8 years ago we were able to find a Jaguar MKII in a unique condition. We drove about 10.000 kilometers with the car in one summer.

Since that time we are trying to have a constant selection of these Jaguars because it is a fantastic car to drive and amongst the driving capabilities, the looks are fantastic. The Jaguar MKII is a car which can be raced or rallied but can be used to drive towards a restaurant on a Sunday as well.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This particular example is in a very nice condition. The Jaguar has been comprehensively restored whereby the entire body has been taken to bare metal in the Netherlands.

During the restoration, the Jaguar has benefitted from the installation of the more powerful 4.2 liter Jaguar XJ engine.

Since 1971 the Jaguar is in Holland and approximately in 2011 the Jaguar was finished from the restoration.

An enormous amount of money must have been spend on this Jaguar as a Jaguar MKII is 1 of the most expensive cars to restore.

During a restoration a Jaguar MKII is in need of everything in a large quantity. Please think of the following:

– The body is large so a lot of money has to be spend on the restoration of the body

– The quantity of chrome parts is extremely high with a Jaguar MKII

– The interior is full of wood

– A lot of glass/windows is/are needed

– Amongst the wood, the interior is full of leather

So a restoration of a Jaguar MKII is extremely expensive and this is the main reason why it is possible to buy for a very low price a restoration object. A proper restoration exceeds probably 2 times the market value of the Jaguar MKII.

Anyway, a Dutch gentlemen has done a restoration and the result is very nice.

After the Jaguar went to Germany and Belgium she is back with us now. The former Belgium owner made the Jaguar even more user friendly by installing a manual gearbox with overdrive as well as a beautiful integrated sunroof.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

Cosmetically the Jaguar shows extremely well. The body restoration has been carried out on a very high level and the repaint was a high quality job.

The hood, trunk and door gaps are all very nice.

The chrome is still completely original due to the fact that the gentlemen who carried out the restoration wanted to keep the feeling of a classic car. The quality of the chrome is very nice and he didn’t want to make a new car with an old chassis number. He wanted to keep the charm of a classic car.

Therefore the chrome shows here and there some minor pickling but this is a nice patina which we personally like very much.

The window glass and lenses are all in a nice condition.

CONDITION INTERIOR

During the restoration, the former owner choose for a beautiful brown/beige interior which combines very well with the dark maroon red exterior color.

The interior is spectacular and has been extremely nice restored with a wonderful high quality leather and very nice carpets. The doorcards are in the same leather as the seats and this finalize the interior extremely well.

The headlining is also restored and is of the period correct material and in outstanding condition.

All the gauges and meters are in a perfect working order.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

When we recently bought this Jaguar we drove the car for approximately 200 km’s to come home.

A great and very enjoyable ride.

Every time we use a MKII for a longer drive we are impressed by the outstanding road behavior.

The handling of the car is great but also the power which is produced by the 4.2 liter engine results in a lot of pleasure when driving the car.

One can easily drive on serious high speed and due to the upgrade with the manual gearbox with overdrive the engine doesn’t have to make high revs.

This MKII is a great example of a wonderful driving and superb looking MKII.
