Description
"The E-Type Series III was introduced in 1971, with a new 5.3 litre, V12 engine, uprated brakes, and power steering as standard. Optionally, an automatic transmission, wire wheels and air conditioning were available. The brand new V12 engine produced 272bhp, had increased torque, and a 0-60mph time of less than seven seconds, which was phenomenal for the price of the car at that time, considering its competition in the marketplace. The short wheelbase fixedhead coupé bodystyle was discontinued, with the Series III available only as a roadster or 2+2 coupé. The newly used longer wheelbase now offered significantly more room in all directions. These models were easily identifiable by the large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches, wider tyres and a badge on the rear that proudly proclaims it to be a V12. It is thought that only 7,990 (1872 RHD) convertibles and 7,297 (2115 RHD) fixedhead cars were produced.
This particular example was originally supplied by Henlys Manchester in April 1973, as you see it today, a Primrose Yellow roadster with the all important manual gearbox. A Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate confirms the car also retains its original engine. The paintwork presents in excellent order, following a respray in 2015, the chromework retains a good shine and the interior (most likely all original) presents superbly. The car is supplied with a V5C registration document and a comprehensive history file going back to the early 1990’s showing evidence of caring ownership ever since. Our vendor purchased the car in 2016, at which time it was treated to a full service, power steering belt and pump, and other miscellaneous jobs to ensure the car was in perfect condition for him to collect it. The car has only covered a little over 1000 miles during this ownership, so is supplied to the sale with a fresh oil and filter service, ready for its next custodian.
