"Produced between 1961 and 1975 the Jaguar E-Type instantly cemented its place in automotive history when it was revealed at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. However, the car very nearly didn’t make it, arriving just 20 minutes before the big reveal! “Good God, Berry,” said Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons as the car was vigorously wiped clean and put on display. “I thought you were never going to get here.” Needless to say that the car was very well received and demand for press test drives was so high that Jaguar test driver Norman Dewis was told to ‘drop everything’ and deliver another E-type, their open-top demonstrator ‘77 RW’ to Geneva. He drove through the night, arriving to great applause from the eagerly awaiting press. The E-type evolved over its 14 year production with the covered headlamps becoming open, radiator intake shape changes and indicator changes being just a few of the many alterations made. Whilst the early cars are considered the most desirable, the later cars are much improved and more comfortable with various options such as convertibles, Fixedhead Coupés and 2+2 Coupés available.
Repatriated to the UK from the USA in 1990, this New York delivered E-Type Series II 2+2 Fixedhead Coupé began the process of being restored a few years after its return. A professional restoration was undertaken in 2015 after the project had stalled when the previous owner was no longer able to afford to complete it. The restoration company eventually acquired the car from the vendor and proceeded to complete the project. They had previously converted the car to right hand drive around 2004, but now the body was treated to a bare metal respray, its 4.2 litre engine gone through, the mechanics overhauled including bushes and rubbers all round, a new wiring loom fitted, stainless exhaust, new wheels and the interior re-trimmed. This automatic, power steering car is handsome in its presentation with its original colour scheme of Old English White with black interior looking fantastic on its wire wheels. A matching numbers example, this Series II surely represents incredible value for money, especially for a recently and well restored car.
The car is supplied with a good history file which includes an MoT test certificate valid until 24th August 2018, a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and V5C registration document."
