Description
This stunning D-Type recreation started life as a Ram chassis and was completely re-built 3 times over a twelve year period, each time becoming lighter and faster. The car has ended up becoming a bespoke and unique D-Type recreation that is both road legal and a racing car. It weighs just 936 kilograms. The centre tub, doors and rear fin are hand formed aluminum with the tail and bonnet in lightwight glassfibre.
The technical specification is huge with five files of drawings, technical data and invoices covering the creation of the car. This Jaguar has been created to its current form after literally thousands of hours of development and three complete rebuilds by its skilled automotive design/engineer builder.
The engine power is provided by a hand built 4.2 big valve head, 3.8 block with a lightened and strengthened flywheel, pistons, rods and balanced crank. These are all coupled to triple Weber carburettors. Fuel is sourced from an aluminum foam filled fitted tank. Spark plug power is sourced from a Lumination programmable ignition system. The engine is coupled to a Getrag close ratio 5 speed box fitted to a Cambridge Motorsport clutch system. Final drive is via a 3.5:4 power lock diff with uprated drive shafts. The adjustable bias brake system is coupled with Hi Spec Monster RR four pot calipers at the front and superlite aluminum calipers to the rear. Handling is aided by uprated wishbones and Avo coil over shock absorbers (aluminum lightweight) and springs.
This D-Type is UK registered and has SVA approval. The car is registered road legal however is currently in race set up and will require the hand brake to be made functional and the front indicators (supplied) to be re-fitted for road use. In addition, a spare Jaguar engine is available by seperate negotiation. The vendor has just spent £7,000 preparing the car for competition. This includes new alternator, fire and electrical system, steel braided hoses and pipes, quick release steering wheel, bespoke roll cage and brake pads. The car is now totally race ready with absolutely nothing to do apart from fitting race tyres.
The vendor tells us that "this Jaguar is awesome to drive with brute power and balance, it handles superbly." The cars is so well set up and sorted that this Jaguar has achieved no less than 12 outright wins in its last 16 outings. The car is not only a front running winner but can also be used on the road for rallies and tours, the newly constructed fitted roll bar is easily detachable for these events. Built by a competent and highly skilled automotive engineer the car is now offered at a fraction of its build and development cost.
