Plus de sept années ont été nécessaires pour construire cette D-Type Short Nose, avec comme double objectif : réaliser une voiture 100% conforme (tant au niveau mécanique que cosmétique), et avoir une auto aussi à l’aise sur route que sur piste. Pour ce faire, le commanditaire a pris soin de s’entourer des plus grands spécialistes du modèle, tout en étant conseillé par les experts mondialement reconnus de chez DK Engineering. Notons par ailleurs que les réglages finaux ont été confiés à Chris Keith-Lucas, à la tête d’une autre officine de référence, CKL Development.
Si vous ne savez pas qu’il s’agit d’une reconstruction de facture récente, vous pourrez être trompés par les panneaux d’aluminiums respectant les mesures – et épaisseur - exactes, l’espacement des rivets, la boîte de vitesse (revue intégralement par Crosthwaite & Gardiner pour plus de 20 000 £), les carburateurs Weber 45 DCOE3, les jauges du tableau de bord ou les clignotants jaunes (qui seront changés du rouge après l’accident des 24 Heures du Mans 1955)… le diable se cache dans les détails !
Pour être 100% conforme à la réglementation FIA, DK Engineering s’est également occupé d’équiper la voiture d’un arceau de sécurité dans la dérive d’appui-tête, d’un réservoir d’essence ATL, et d’un système d’extincteur moderne. Grâce à tous ces éléments, cette Tool Room Copy a permis à son propriétaire de prendre le départ de certains des événements les plus importants du calendrier historique. Il participera notamment en 2017 au Silverstone Classic dans le Trophée Woodcote, avec succès pour une première sortie ! Son propriétaire actuel reprendra la piste à plusieurs reprises avant de participer en 2022 au Mans Classic, dans le Jaguar Classic Challenge.
Aujourd’hui, la voiture est dans un très bel état de fonctionnement. Un exemplaire mélangeant aussi brillamment conformité, performance et patine est très certainement unique sur le marché et saura ravir tout Gentleman Driver en quête du jouet idéal.

More than seven years were necessary to build this D-Type Short Nose, with a double objective: to make a 100% compliant car (both mechanically and cosmetically), and to have a car that is as comfortable on the road as it is on the track. In order to achieve this, the owner took care to surround himself with the greatest specialists of the model, while being advised by the world-renowned experts at DK Engineering. The final adjustments were made by Chris Keith-Lucas, head of another reference firm, CKL Development.
If you are not aware that this is a recent build, you may be fooled by the aluminium panels with exact measurements - and thickness -, the rivet spacing, the gearbox (completely revised by Crosthwaite & Gardiner for more than £20,000), the Weber 45 DCOE3 carburettors, the dashboard gauges or the yellow indicators (which will be changed from the red after the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours accident)... the devil is in the details!
In order to be 100% compliant with the FIA regulations, DK Engineering also took care of equipping the car with a roll bar in the head restraint, an ATL fuel tank, and a modern fire extinguisher system. With all these features, this Tool Room Copy has enabled its owner to take part in some of the most important events on the historic calendar. In particular, in 2017 it will be competing in the Silverstone Classic in the Woodcote Trophy, with success for a first outing! Its current owner will return to the track on several occasions before taking part in the 2022 Le Mans Classic, in the Jaguar Classic Challenge.
Today, the car is in very good working order. An example that so brilliantly combines conformity, performance and patina is certainly unique on the market and will delight any Gentleman Driver in search of the perfect toy.
