In 1960 Innocenti, which became famous in the previous years for the Lambretta, decided to expand its industrial strategies by aiming at cars production.
Thanks also to the partnership with the British Motor Corporation, the first Austin A40 sedan was born: the Innocenti 950 Spider, made on the mechanics of the English Austin-Healey Sprite with a more italian “Carrozzeria Ghia” bodywork.
The style was the classic one of the 1960s, with rear-wheel drive and small rear fins on the bodywork, of American derivation.
The car's amenities were respectable for the time, while the sore notes came from the low engine power and maximum speed that barely reached 140 km/h.
Production of the car ended in 1969 nine years after its debut with a little number of units made.
