Description
"Innocenti were originally an affiliate of the British Leyland Group, until being bought by Alejandro DeTomaso in 1976. The Innocenti ‘Nuova Mini’ was produced between 1974 and 1993 and was originally a replacement for the Mini. It was designed by Bertone, featuring a three-door hatchback body and retained the trusty ‘A series’ engine. The mechanics would eventually be replaced by Daihatsu units in 1982. A longer wheelbase version, the 990, was released in 1986 and had more modern Mini Clubman underpinnings. The later cars were true rivals for cars such as the Renault 5 and Fiat 127, but were never offered in right hand drive guise, so are something we are not so familiar with on these shores.
This particular example spent a vast majority of its life in Turin, Italy with one owner from new until its import to the UK in August 2021. The car is showing less than 27,000km, which the condition would suggest is very likely genuine. The overall condition is very impressive, with only a few age-related marks, which are to be expected. The car was fitted with new tyres in 2022, and had a new battery in March 2023, meaning it is ready to take on the summer.
Being powered by a 993cc Daihatsu three-cylinder engine, this may well be the perfect starter classic for a young enthusiast or make for an ultra-rare daily classic. Inside you will find electric windows and wing mirrors, internal hatchback lever and importantly a five-speed gearbox. Parts supply is strong and our vendor reports that the car attracts attention and sparks conversation wherever it goes."
