Description
1966 Holden HR Premier sedan
Genuine X2 engine
Former D’Alberto collection
Nice example
Originally part of the private D’Alberto collection of Holdens, this X2-engined 1966 HR Premier was among more than 50 new or low mileage Holdens collected by the four D’Alberto brothers. Owners of three General Motors dealerships in Victoria and New South Wales, these Holdens which went under the hammer in 2018, when the family sold its Echuca dealership where most of the cars were housed. Out of the factory it was painted Silver Mink with a white roof, our 1966 Holden HR Premier sedan has since been refinished all white and at a distance looks good, but up close there are some blemishes with the paint and its prep. Not so the HR Premier’s copious chrome trim, which shines brightly and is in good shape, as are the correct full hubcapped steel wheels, wearing thin whitewall tyres. Inside, the cabin and its red leather trim are pristine, with potentially some tidying up having been undertaken, but either way the result is impressive and true to the 1966 original. In addition to the Premier’s standard features, this example has several period Holden accessories like bumper over riders front and back, mud flaps, petrol cap spill lip, and rear window venetian blinds. The aerial has also been relocated from the front guard to the roof, a popular modification in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Originally a Premier model powered by the standard 186ci six-cylinder, at some point the HR has been fitted with a genuine X2 engine, the famed top of the range powerplant at the time. In this case it is mated to a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. All in all, this Holden HR Premier is a nice example with some room to improve the paintwork. Previously on full Victorian registration, the 1966 Holden HR Premier sedan is being offered for sale here unregistered.
