BMW updated its popular 319 model with the front bodywork from the 326 to create its drop-top 329, which was imported to the UK and sold by Frazer Nash. Recorded as first registered in September 1937, the example offered here was later sold from Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom to a buyer in Famalicão, Portugal. Then listed as a project, restoration work is thought to have been carried out around the start of the new millennium.
Chassis 86773 then returned to England, where it resided in London until 2006. Subsequently acquired by The Curated Collection and relocated to Belgium, invoices (available to view on file) from May 2013 catalogue a mechanical rebuild by Retro Cars of Temploux, based to the south of Brussels, at a cost of €21,991. A simultaneous rebuild of the 1,971-cc inline six-cylinder engine was completed by Formhalls Vintage & Racing of Fordingbridge in the British county of Hampshire for £7,898. At some point, the block was replaced with an engine from a Frazer Nash-BMW 328.
This Frazer Nash-BMW 329 now presents in a charming two-tone red and black finish and features a black folding soft-top roof, while the interior is lined with tobacco upholstery.
