Description
As one of 16’155 Thunderbird built in 1955, this Ford with its 4.8 litre V8 and automatic gearbox was delivered new in the USA. The history of this “Early Bird” is not known until it was imported into Switzerland from Texas in 1988. At this time the T-bird which was originally painted “T bird blue” with a blue and white interior had been changed to red with a black and white interior. After a number of years owned by a garage owner, the pretty cabriolet was taken over in 1992 by an enthusiast from Zurich and finally registered in Switzerland for the first time in 1993. In 2003 the Ford was taken over by the last owner who decided on having his T-Bird restored. This included a repaint of the coachwork in the actual “Goldenrod yellow”, an original colour and a refurbishment of the interior with a matching yellow and white vinyl. Additionally, all chrome parts were either replaced or re-polished and a new radiator, a new fuel tank as well as a stainless-steel exhaust system were installed. In 2009, the engine received a new carburettor and a new intake manifold as well as a new period-looking alternator. In 2017, in order to pass the MOT, the dampers were replaced and a new fuel pump installed. This pretty cabriolet is equipped with a power steering, electrically adjustable seat bench, a hard top with the typical bullseye and a new, still “in its box”, soft top. The Thunderbird is in good condition and will be handed over to a new owner with the most recent Veteran MOT completed in November 2023.
