Description

"The 1960 Ford Thames van is a classic commercial vehicle that was produced between 1957 and 1965. This van was designed for small businesses and tradespeople, and it quickly gained popularity due to its reliability and practicality. The Ford Thames van was a common sight on British roads in the 1960s, and it remains an iconic vehicle today.
We are informed that this Thames van was originally new to Townhead garage in the Scottish town of Strathaven. The garage was located on the main street and the story goes that the owner, James Young, was keen to acquire the local Ford dealership. Part of the deal, was that the garage had to buy one of Ford’s service vans. Townhead garage was also the local dealer for Standard Triumph vehicles, and Mr Young already had one of its vans in service. Ford insisted that the 300E was part of the dealership package, and one can only assume that the contract was worth the trouble and expense. Having got the van, Young dutifully painted it in the garage colours and stored it away for the next 30 years. The vehicle wasn’t even registered for road use and will need some recommissioning. With this story in mind it is believed that the mileage is correct, but not warranted. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and offered without reserve. Given the recent popularity of Ford vehicles this van has fantastic investment potential."
