Description
A cult classic - the Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth, and one of the very few that haven’t been completely ruined over the years with modifications, rust or damage. This Cosworth is finished in Flint Grey over its original two-tone Grey cloth interior. Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four, delivering 217bhp and 214lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. A host of replacement parts have recently been fitted, including a new cam belt and tensioners, water pump, fuel tank, and radiator.
This car was bought earlier this year by a very prominent American supercar collector with the sole intention of using it for their visit to Goodwood Festival of Speed for the weekend. As such, when they bought it ahead of their arrival, they had the car totally gone through to ensure it was absolutely tip top mechanically and wouldn’t let them down at all during their brief visit. As the car had only recently had a large amount of recomissioning work in 2021 and 2022, having been in storage, from 2007-2021, it didn’t want for much. However, owing to their carte-blanche approach to its health for peace of mind for their trip, no stone was left unturned and in the end a new boost controller was fitted amongst some other smaller niggles. As such, today, the car performs phenomenally well and drives exactly as it should, it’s a riot to peddle!
This Sierra sits on a set of refurbished 15-inch ‘Lattice’ alloy wheels, shod with new Falken tyres. The specification also includes a fully functioning sunroof, Recaro front seats, and electric windows. Accompanying the car is the owner’s handbook, a large folder of invoices, historic tax discs, toolkit, and two keys. The car also benefits from the fitment of an aftermarket but very subtle stainless-steel exhaust. Also supplied with it are photographs of the car being crane-lifted out of the previous owner’s garage after being stored for 14 years as access had become blocked due to a house extension. The event was recorded, and a USB stick containing the nine-minute video will be provided.
The paintwork is in very good condition, save for a blemish on the roof, small stone chips on the front end, and minor imperfections on the front passenger’s door. Moving inside, there is a little discolouration on the seats, minor sagging on the driver’s seat, and small imperfections on the offside door cards, though the cabin is in incredibly good order overall and is all origina (apart from the headlining that has been recently replaced)l, a big bonus in our eyes. Whilst the radio itself works fine, the stacked CD player is inoperative and is said to be beyond repair.
The most recent MOT test was conducted on 11th September 2023 at 77,656 miles, resulting in a clean first-time pass. Aside from the recent going-through in May 2023, the car was last fully serviced in February 2022 at approximately 77,000 miles by Hereford Ford Specialists, who investigated an issue with the door ajar system and replaced the front and rear axle oil, auxiliary belts, fuel regulator, and fuel filter. Also in February 2022, Stitch Perfect in Worcester fitted new seat belt bolts and anchor plates, repaired the door cards, and replaced the headliner. Several other components were replaced in 2022, including the filters, cam belt, tensioners, water pump, spark plugs, radiator, front and rear brake discs and pads, flexi brake hoses, fuel tank, fuel pump, and ABS ECU. The front and rear brake callipers have been overhauled, new tyres have been fitted, and the wheels have been refurbished. All of this is documented in the large history file with the car.
The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4 is a sought-after ‘Fast Ford’, equipped with a potent turbocharged engine and a secure all-wheel drive system. This is a very smart example of the breed, offered for sale in sound mechanical health. It would make an excellent addition to any collection of modern classics, and needs nothing to be enjoyed on the new owner’s favourite country roads.
As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
