Description

No-expense-spared restoration of Milton Adey’s classic Hawkeye Pinto.
Upgraded custom-built 351 Cleveland V8.
Could be used as a drag car or just admired as automotive art.

Milton Adey’s Hawkeye Pinto has been restored to its former glory after eight years of painstaking labour. The magnificent paintwork is by Harts Paints of Geebung and this unique machine presents as brand new. A 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8 propelled the Hawkeye Pinto to its 10.22-second run and this rendition has stuck with that formula. This time around though, Hardblok, a Scat crankshaft, Eagle conrods, Comp Cams solid camshaft, Manley chrome-moly pushrods, Harland Sharp rockers, Ferrea stainless steel valves and Iskenderian valve springs have all been incorporated to unleash additional power. An Edelbrock Torker intake and 835cfm Holley top things off, engine-wise. As for those stylish Gold Moroso valve covers, they may have ubiquitous in the 1980s, but proved difficult to source. Custom Transmissions built a very special Powerglide with myriad billet internals. The differential is a nine-inch unit with 4.55:1 gears, Romac spool and 35-spline axles. The battery and fuel cell are sandwiched between the huge rear wheel tubs. As for the Center Line Auto Drag wheels – 15 X 3.5 up front and 15 X 12 echo Milton Adey’s thinking. A Hugo’s shifter adds a contemporary touch but the cluster of gauges are 1980s period-correct. Within an immensely strong rollcage sits a single Kirkey race seat in black. The thoroughness and no-expense-spared nature of this rebuild are evident throughout. While it has been driven down the strip a couple of times, The vendor reckons the dragster is too good to be driven in anger. It is now offered for sale to the next appreciative custodian. Australia has a proud legacy of drag racing dating from the very early 1960s and this utterly brilliant rebuild of Milton Adey’s famous Ford Pinto would take a proud place in any motorsport-focused collection.
