Description

Sixties America delivered some of the finest V8 muscle cars ever. Few are more rare and collectible than the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Convertible. Only 404 cars ever produced.

The story of Shelby Mustangs began when Carroll Shelby along with Ford decided to start building high-performance versions of the Mustang. In 1965 the Shelby GT350 was born. 1968 was a big year for the Shelby Mustang program. Not only as the first model year to offer convertibles. But also the first year with the new larger displacement 302 cubic inch small-block engine. With an updated new unique fascia and the special tail lights.

This particular Shelby GT350, Serial number 8T03J129550-00574 was Scheduled for production on december 15 1967, planned to be the 574th Shelby produced, but was actually produced on december 8th 1967, seven days ahead of schedule. The car, ordered in the beautiful combination of an Acapulco blue exterior paint paired with a White powder convertible top with a glass backlite and a black decor interior. The car was highly specified with factory options including power steering, power front disc brakes and tilt away steering column. To make the driving experience as enjoyable as possible the car came with a four speed manual gearbox, making it one of only 214 cars with that gearbox option.

The Shelby was first registered new in England 1969, but still maintained the US specification marchal lights that the English cars normally didn't get to keep because of regulations. The car stayed in England until 2009, when the current owner: a Swedish enthusiast bought the car from Bill Shepherd Mustang: an English muscle car specialist. The engine was immediately changed by the same company. Forward two years to the summer of 2011 when this car won the “best performance car 1965-73” at High Chaparral.

Before being imported to Sweden, Bill Shepherd Mustang changed the faulty engine to a new 302. The current owner: a true enthusiast who has kept the car in immaculate condition notes maintenance done under his ownership includes new improved Hydraulic steering, damping, suspension and a new speedometer that reads in kilometres instead of miles, better suited for Swedish roads.

A chance to purchase a rare and beautifully kept 1968 Ford Mustang 350 gt Shelby convertible ready for its next drive, a favourite between American car enthusiast and collectors. The car can be viewed in our Uppsala showroom. A full list of the executed work, as well as history, pictures and videos can be sent in case of serious interest. Do not hesitate to get in touch.
