Estimate:
$ 40,000 - $ 50,000 US

In 1965, a new model joined the Mustang stable, which already included a hardtop coupe and a convertible. This new model was introduced as a 2+2 fastback body. For the 1965 production year 559,451 Mustangs were manufactured. 77,079 were fastback models and 73,112 were convertibles. The popularity of the Mustang was eye-opening to the entire industry.

Ford advertised the new model in double-page spreads in the period enthusiast magazines with its image positioned directly below the Ford Le Mans racecar with the words “The Ultimate Total Performance car – Ford GT - The car it inspired – new Mustang GT.” It was regarded as a brilliant new package for the driver who “knows what Total Performance really means.”

The “basic” GT package delivered exhilaration with its A-code 289-cid, 225-hp V-8 (like this car), straight-through dual exhaust with chromed trumpet extensions, built-in foglamps, Mustang Special Handling Package, GT badging on the front fenders and the GT stripes above the rocker panels. Inside was special too with a custom GT Equipment Group with five-dial instrument cluster – this car has the optional Rally Pac also and likewise is equipped with factory air conditioning, wood-rimmed steering wheel, windshield washer, period-style custom wheels, AM radio and BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

Running with a "laser-straight" body; this 1965 Mustang has been the recipient of a complete restoration and only 200 miles are reported to have been driven since completion. This particular car is also stated to run with its original A-code engine and rear end; it also features a four-speed manual transmission. Refinished in its original factory color of Code H Caspian Blue with the same original and complementary tone of blue interior, the Mustang GT 2+2 Fastback also has its original owner’s manual and keys. Look for the unique Ford GT stripe – when new, it was the acknowledged symbol of America’s Total Performance cars.
