Description
"The Model 48 was an update on Ford's V8-powered Model 40A, the company's main product. The 1935 Ford's combination of price, practicality, and looks vaulted the company ahead of rival Chevrolet for the sales crown that year, with 820,000 units sold. Ford at the time stopped producing a four cylinder engine offering only the 3622cc V8 that was fitted to every car and truck. Visually, the 1935 Ford was much more modern with the grille pushed forward and made more prominent by de-emphasized and more-integrated bumpers. A major advance was a true integrated boot on the saloons. A standard model and Deluxe option were available with extras being offered including an oil pressure gauge, two windscreen wipers instead of just one for the driver and a radio.
This rare four door Model 48 was originally registered on 31st December 1935. The condition of this Ford is remarkable taking into account it is has been on the road for 84 years and is largely original. The penultimate owner was a garage proprietor and kept the car for 30 years, it was always dry stored and as such is a rust free example. A replacement engine was fitted in 1994 and the car has covered less than 1,000 miles since. The car is complete with nothing missing and offers a great opportunity to purchase a stylish Ford of the period and one that has the familiar sound of a V8. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this righthand drive example was manufactured at Dagenham and could be described as a true piece of motoring history.
