In order to homologate the model for the World Rally Championship Ford built 2’500 RS Cosworth with the large turbocharger, resulting in a power output of 220 hp. The car is also equipped with a rather gigantic roof mounted spoiler. The example offered here is one of those much sought-after homologation specials. It is a Swiss delivery with a sliding roof which, following local regulations of the time, had to be delivered without the roof spoiler. On the 18th of March 1993 the Escort was registered for the first time in the French part of Switzerland. In August 2015, then having driven 17’465 kilometres, this power package was taken over by the vendor from the first owner and, albeit driven sparingly, was always meticulously maintained. The last mayor service which included a replacement of the cambelt was completed in August 2023 at 19’445 kilometres. To return the car to its original brute appearance a “Eggenberger-Motorsport” roof spoiler was installed and homologated. This exceedingly rare RS Cosworth, with only two owners and less than 20’000 kilometres on the clock, is in outstanding, nearly new condition and would certainly make a fitting centrepiece in any Ford collection. The last Veteran MOT was completed in September 2023 allowing the Escort to be registered immediately.
