First registered in January 1965, but built in 1963, this left-hand drive Cortina Lotus Mk1 ‘Consul type’ was a 125E, a highly prized and valuable ‘pre-Aeroflow’ model. This version, which predated the facelift at the end of 1964, was distinguished by the absence of rear pillar vents and dashboard vents, as well as by a different radiator grille to later versions. The rear suspension was also A-Frame, with reinforcement tubes visible in the boot compartment.

Mechanically, its Twin Cam engine develops some 135 bhp. It is mated to the original 2000E Bullet 4-speed gearbox (correct gearing with long first gear) and a Banjo axle with ZF (75%) disc brakes. High-performance, reliable and in immaculate condition, this first-generation Ford Cortina Lotus only competed in the Tour Auto…
