Description
"Some ideas are just moments of genius, shifting a concept around 180° and leaving other manufacturers playing catch-up. This was the case with Fiats new Multipla. Not only was it their first rear wheel drive car but they went one step further and moved the cockpit over the front wheels allowing this interior to now seat six people in three rows in comfort. A concept still in production today. The engine in the 600D was 767cc unit, an eminently flexible motor with a top speed just under 70mph making these charming and practical little vehicles among the most sought after of all post-war Fiats.
Most of this Multipla’s life has been spent in a Fiat garage in its home country, specifically Bologna. Whilst there, it only had two owners from new. In January 2016, Fiat specialists expertly restored this example with all paint stripped off to bare metal, corrosion removed and fresh paint reapplied in the original colour scheme of white over blue. The engine has been up-rated with a sports camshaft, modified carburettor and an Abarth exhaust system, now producing circa 57bhp and enabling this Fiat better able to cope with modern traffic while an up-rated cooling system and electric fan help keep engine temperatures within acceptable limits. Indeed, all running gear has been renewed or refurbished as necessary. In lovely condition throughout, this charming Multipla requires no additional work and benefits from a new carpet set from specialist, Proietti. It even features its original radio.
