When Fiat introduces the 500 in 1957, the Turin car manufacturer cannot know what a huge success it will become. On July 4 of that year, the first 500s roll off the production line in the north of Italy. Initially, the 500 does not run so fast, because it is a lot more sparse than the already available and successful 600. However, the tide turns quickly and the 500 grows into the figurehead of Italian mobility, together with the Vespa.

We would actually like to label the 500L that we offer here as 'bellissima' because it is an incredibly fresh 500. Completely restored and in optimal condition, we don't see 500s of this level very often. The numerous photos of the restoration clearly show how the work was done: professionally and in detail.
The bodywork has been completely bare and generously equipped with new sheet metal. Where restorations of 500s are sometimes cut back on the work on the sheet metal because of the price, quality has clearly been chosen here. The result is a body that looks beautiful, with very neat seams, the correct fits of parts that are normally sealed without any effort. We probably don't have to explain that the dark blue paint is a very popular color.
The chrome bumpers, all rubbers and chrome strips are or look new. To give the 500 a classic sporty look, time-correct 12” Abarth wheels with 145/70R12 tires have been fitted.

The same story is true in the interior: the interior was completely renovated, painted and fitted with new upholstery and carpeting. Beautiful brown upholstery contrasts very nicely with the dark blue paint layer. The carpeting is neat, the same certainly applies to the seat upholstery. The door panels are also still in a neat condition and the 500 is still equipped with the original round counter of the earlier models, which was replaced with a horizontal one in the later versions and a dashboard that was completely finished in black.

The technology, such as the chassis, brakes and steering have also been renewed, we realize that the description is indeed becoming somewhat boring. The 500 therefore drives very well, with the last rabbit not even having conjured up the top hat: behind the back seat is a somewhat more powerful engine than was originally available in 1969. As a result, the 500L not only drives very pleasantly, but you also keep up with the traffic. No, don't be under any illusions, we would personally not advise traffic light sprints. Fortunately, every 500 owner and owner knows that that is absolutely not the point. Putting a smile on the face, a 500 always wins that game, no matter what it has to compete against.

Fiat 500s are still offered in large numbers, but beautiful cars are becoming rarer. We still see them too often patched up instead of thoroughly restored. This 1969 500, however, is one that has been restored in the way enthusiasts do: down to the last detail.
