The Fiat 500 was a city car produced by the Italian manufacturer Fiat between 1957 and 1975. Launched as the Nuova 500 in July 1957, it was a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only nine feet nine inches long, and originally powered by an appropriately sized 479cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term ‘small car’, and is considered one of the first city cars. Fiat produced their famous 'suicide door' 500D from 1960-1965. This was also available with the trasformabile (transformable) roof. This combination of fully convertible roof and suicide doors is very rare now and has become the most collectable version of the 500.

This particular 500D that we are pleased to offer for sale was built in Italy in 1962 and features the desirable combination of suicide doors and transformabile roof. It was imported to the United Kingdom in 2010 and registered in November that year. It was then sold in 2014 and has been owned by the same family since. The car has been very well cared for during this time and has had no expense spared maintaining it with various specialists over the years.

Between 2015 and 2017 the car was treated to a full restoration which included a bare metal respray in the stunning Verde Chiaro shade it wears today and an interior retrim in Tan leather. The car has also received a large amount of mechanical work with specialists Motobambino ensuring it drives as well as it looks!

The history file is extensive and maintains a vast number of invoices from the restoration and other mechanical works carried out over the years. It also retains its original handbook and registration logbook as well as a selection of photos documenting its bare metal respray.
