Description

"We are delighted to offer this beautiful Fiat 500D that was manufactured at the FIAT Mirafiori facility in Torino during 1960, as confirmed by the FIAT Archivo E Centro Storico dating letter on file. This little Fiat has been restored to the most exacting standards and includes discreet upgrades that provide the car with enhanced performance for today’s traffic whilst retaining the look of the original car as it left the factory almost 60 years ago. Having been disappointed with two previous professionally restored classic cars, the vendor decided to embark on a restoration himself that would be a ‘retirement project’ and eventually became ‘a labour of love’. No job would be considered finished unless carried out to the highest standard and with time not an issue many thousands of hours were lavished on the car resulted in the most beautiful example of a Fiat 500 we have ever seen, taking nearly six years to complete.
The bodyshell was completely stripped and sand blasted, whereby it required only minimal repairs that were carried out to the highest standard.  Top quality paint application was then completed in a period colour of light blue. Such is the quality of the shell that the doors shut better than any we have ever seen. To provide enhanced performance without effecting original appearance, a slightly larger engine was fitted which again has been completely rebuilt to the highest standard with a lightened and balanced flywheel, crankshaft and pistons and a polished and ported cylinder head. A larger carburettor, generator and electronic ignition have also been added.  The engine is mated to a later, synchromesh four speed gearbox also completely rebuilt.  The original and somewhat un-friendly non-adjustable front transverse leaf spring suspension has been converted to coil-over shock absorbers. These improvements add to performance, handling and an improved driving experience without affecting the appearance of this pretty motor car. Every component has been stripped, cleaned, rebuilt as required or replaced with original or re-manufactured parts. The interior seating has been re-trimmed in the exact style of the original whilst a set of ribbed rubber floor coverings were sourced and fitted exactly as the car left the factory in 1960. Everywhere you look on this amazing car, there are small detailed items that are normally missed or overlooked on other restorations, reflecting both the time spent and the fastidious approach to this project. This Fiat 500D is complete with a UK V5C registration document, a large history file and a full photographic and invoiced record of this extraordinary’ labour of love’ restoration."
