Conditions
In mid-March, therefore corresponding to the 1976 Geneva Motor Show, the 131 Abarth was born, of which the competition version was also presented, destined to replace the 124 Abarth Rally in the Fiat racing team. The project derives from the experiences of the 131 Abarth 031 winner of the 1975 Giro Automobile d'Italia. To obtain the homologation of the 131 Abarth for Group 4 competitions and to replace the old 124 Abarth, Fiat produced a road version, sold in limited number that added up to a few hundred. Presented at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show, the 131 Abarth Rally had the same engine as the competition version, but a little "civilised", with the 2.0-litre 16-valve four-cylinder developing 140 HP, making it a truly fast car given that it weighed less by a ton! Other changes compared to the regular sedan included redesigned plastic body parts, modified suspension, special wheels and a sporty interior. With its more powerful and lighter competition version and with a maximum power of over 200 HP, the Fiat 131 Abarth won the World Rally Championship three times: in 1977, 1978 and 1980. Specifically, we are talking about a car produced in March 1976 with only 2 owners, the last one having owned the car for 25 years. From an aesthetic point of view, the car is strictly standard with all the original details. The interiors have been modified by replacing the original seats with the existing Fusina type ones. A period roll bar with four bolting holes was mounted, not welded and therefore easily removable. The panels were replaced identical to the originals. The steering wheel is of the Abarth type, naturally the original 3-spoke one is available. As can be seen in the photos, the original instrumentation present has been replaced with a more "racing" one. As regards the mechanics, the shock absorbers are original and tuned by Scalenghe. Brakes with aeronautical type tubes, and hydraulic emergency brake. 300mm self-ventilated front brake discs with adequate brake calipers, rear brake disc also ventilated. There are aluminum spacers on the rear wheels. Gearbox with standard ratios and vertical gear lever. “Bacci” type self-locking differential. Tuned engine with ground crankshaft, new bushings and connecting rods. New piston rings and head tuning. Racing camshafts, 2 48 Weber carburettors with Arquati manifold. Specifically, the power delivered at 6500 rpm is 191hp. Naturally the car has never suffered an accident. Numerous spare parts available only and exclusively with the sale of the vehicle.
Curiosity
In 1976-78 the purchase price for the 131 Abarth was L. 9,086,000, a car of collector's value.
