Description

In 1947, Fiat expanded the 1100 range with an original, sleek and sporty Berlinetta, of which just a few hundred were built. Among the special designs by the major coachbuilders for the Fiat 1100 chassis, one of the most fascinating body styles was done by Fiat itself by the ‘Carrozzerie Speciali’ devision. For the top of the range model, the 1100 Sport Berlinetta, a different engine was made to make it more powerful and very reliable.

The 4-cylinder 1089cc engine had an output of 51hp @ 5200 rpm and thanks to its aerodynamically body, the car could reach a top speed of 150 km/h. The lightened chassis was combined with a streamlined lightweight all alloy body, alloy trim and lightweight bucket seats.

The Fiat 1100 S had a great racing potential. At the 1947 Mille Miglia, 4 Fiat 1100 S Berlinetta’s finished among the top 10 overall. A year later, results were even better when a Fiat 1100 S Berlinetta finished 3rd overall at the Mille Miglia.

This specific example is a remarkable Fiat 1100 Sport Berlinetta ‘Mille Miglia’ from 1948 and has an extensive racing history. According to the Archivio Storico FIAT, this Fiat was built on the 21st September in 1948 with a ‘Carrozzerie Speciali’ coachwork. In 1953, Mr. Faustino Campostella and Mr. Collini participated with this car in the Mille Miglia, finishing 180th overall. A year later, Campostella participated in the Giro di Sicilia, Mille Miglia and Coppa d’oro Delle Dolomiti. In 1955, Campostella and Collini participated and finished for the 3rd time in a row in the Mille Miglia. All impressive results, considering the car was already 5 years old when it participated its first Mille Miglia.

Period racing history

1953 XX Mille Miglia #330 Campostella & Collini. Result: 9th in class and 180th overall
1954 Giro di Sicilia #236 Campostella. Result: 5th in class and 42th overall
1954 XXI Mille Miglia #357 Campostella & Collini. Result: 11th in class and 129th overall
1954 Coppa d’oro Delle Dolomiti #69 Campostella. Result: 5th in class and 50th overall
1955 XXII Mille Miglia #516 Campostella & Collini. Result: 7th in class and 144th overall

After having spent its life in Italy, this car was acquired for one of our customers in 2017. The gearbox was rebuilt in 2018 in Italy and the car was extensively prepared for participating in the Mille Miglia again. After participating in the 2019 Mille Miglia and Red Cross Rally (NL), the car was sold in 2020 to its current Dutch owner. The owner has very high standards and he spend an impressive 60.000 Euro on the car over the last 2 years. The decision was made to renew the interior and many small things were perfected. The result is a remarkable lightweight streamliner Berlinetta in very well prepared condition. The car is only for sale due to the acquisition of another car for the collection.

According to the Archivio Storico FIAT, the car was originally finished in ‘Verde’ and still has its original matching number engine. The car is of course accepted in the Registro Mille Miglia (original participant). With the car comes a big history file with all appropriate FIVA papers and Dutch (EEC) registration. A Fiat 1100 S Berlinetta is a very rare car and one with such an important history hardly ever comes available.

Price is Euro 550.000,-.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a car which stands out in all events worldwide.
