Description

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Monterey event, 15 - 17 August 2024.

  • Believed to be one of approximately 120 US-market cars and one of 500 produced globally
  • Showing only 4,952 miles at cataloguing time
  • Custom ordered in stealthy Nero over Nero color scheme with matching wheels and Giallo brake calipers
  • Highly specified with sport exhaust and desirable carbon fiber options including wing mirror stalks, fog lamps, and front and rear splitters
  • Ferrari’s first-ever production hypercar equipped with the F1-derived hybrid system

Packed shoulder to shoulder at the Ferrari stand, attendees of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show witnessed the debut of something momentous: the first roadgoing hybrid Ferrari. Impossibly low-slung, the stunning hypercar was a remarkable statement even to Ferrari, as its very name reflects: Simply called, LaFerrari, there are no latent references to past models or complicated alphanumeric designations for its F1-influenced hybrid powertrain—just “The Ferrari.” This was it, the singular vehicle that would chart the company’s future.

Ferrari was not alone in its pursuit to electrify the hypercar; both McLaren and Porsche were on a similar path at the time. Ferrari, however, was the only one to employ a 12-cylinder engine, in true Ferrari tradition. Within a footprint no larger than the preceding Enzo’s, the automaker managed to squeeze both a 6.2-liter V-12 and a 120-kilowatt electric motor into the middle of its carbon-fiber monocoque. With 789 horsepower on tap from the V-12 and an additional 161 horsepower from the electric motor, total output came to a heady 950 horsepower.

Picking up the torch from the Enzo, the LaFerrari continues a grand tradition of mid-engine Ferrari flagship supercars that began with the 288 GTO. Only 500 LaFerraris were built. Production of the hardtop started in mid-2013 and ceased just after New Year’s Day 2016. Ferrari offered the car exclusively to an ultra-elite upper crust of the Maranello automaker’s most faithful.

Delivered to its first owner owner through Ferrari San Diego in July of 2015, this LaFerrari was custom ordered in the rare and desirable combination of Nero with matching black wheels and Giallo calipers over Nero leather upholstery for a subtle and stealthy presentation. It was also fitted with a variety of carbon-fiber fitments, including wing mirror stalks, fog lamps, and front and rear splitters. The optional telemetry kit with inner cameras, large-size seats, and a black sports exhaust enhance comfort and driving enjoyment.

While under the care of the previous owner, the car was displayed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, California and is said to have been routinely serviced at Ferrari San Francisco and driven sparingly. It clocked just under 4,000 miles prior to being acquired by the consignor in August 2017. Now showing 4,952 miles as of cataloguing time, this superb example of Ferrari’s groundbreaking hybrid hypercar is now offered with original books, tools, luggage, battery charging kit, and service invoices.

The pinnacle of Ferrari’s road-car development, the LaFerrari further extends a long lineage of era-defining supercars like the 288 GTO, F40, F50, and the Enzo. As offered, this superb example is unreservedly worthy of its stature as the ultimate roadgoing Ferrari model ever conceived, built, and offered to the world.
