Description
"What's behind you doesn't matter." - Enzo Ferrari
Ferrari makes a completely different category of "goosebump creators". The twelve-cylinder four-seater (Grand Tourers). A category for people who appreciate the speed and sound of a Ferrari, but don't want to combine the nervousness and lack of comfort in their daily kilometers. Our beautiful 612 Scaglietti falls within this category.
The predecessor of the 612 was the Ferrari 456M GT. Also one of the most beautiful, modest and classiest Grand Tourers of all time. Compared to Aston Martin and Mercedes, who in turn liked to participate in this classification, were technically much more modern than the Ferrari. Ferrari had to work hard to catch up. To put the Mercedes CL600 and Aston Martin DB9 in the shade, the Ferrari technicians had a huge blow. The Ferrari feeling in a car that was comfortable. Easy entry and exit, comfortable seats, good infotainment and luxury in an Italian sports car. They came with a pure sports car: engine behind the front axle and transmission on the rear axle (so a transaxle), with of course only the rear wheels driven by the atmospheric V12 with 540 rising Modena horses.
The coach was designed by Pinifarina. There are clear winkings of the one-of-Ferrari 375 MM Speciale in the design. The folds in the body and headlights seem to come directly from here. Because the 612 had become 'a bit thick' due to all the luxury, a completely aluminum design was chosen with a space frame that was welded directly to the body. The name Scaglietti came from Sergio Scagletti, a bodywork in the best sense of the word. An artist with aluminum beating.
The name 612 stands for 6 liter 12 cylinder. The block was a Tipo F133D, exactly the same block as the 575M SuperAmerica. A bit cheated, because the block is 'only' a 5.7 liter. Fortunately the compromises stop here, the GT sprint to the 100 in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km / h.
Our 612 Scaglietti is in Nero Daytona and is in absolute new condition. The complete maintenance history, original booklets and keys are of course present. Our 612 was originally delivered in Italy and is currently owned by the third owner. In 2005, incidentally also the first production year, it was delivered in addition to 863 other copies worldwide.
"everyone dreams of driving a Ferrari, it was my inent from the start" - Enzo Ferrari
