Description

With the launch of the ‘550’, Ferrari introduced the successor to the ‘F512’ as the top model of the Italian brand in 1996. The two-seater GT was equipped with a front-mounted V12 with a displacement of 5.5 litres, providing a power of 485 HP. With this concept, they returned to the design of the Daytona, which was very popular in the late 60s.

The bodywork of the ‘550’ was constructed from aluminium in order to save weight, while the gearbox was mounted at the rear axle to ensure the ideal distribution of weight.

A virtually standard ‘550’ was pushed to the limit at the ‘Transportation Research Center’ in Ohio in October 1998. The car managed to break no less than three speed records for production cars during this day in October:

- 100 miles at an average speed of 306.037 km/h
- 100 kilometres at an average of 304.1 km/h
- 1 hour at an average speed of 296.168 km/h

An impressive performance that stood for no less than 4 years, until a pre-production Lamborghini Murciélago was able to break the record in 2002.

To honour this impressive performance, 33 cars were produced to the same specifications as the car that was able to achieve these records. As standard, these ‘World Speed Record’ editions were equipped with a customised suspension and brakes (Fiorano Handling pack), a roll cage with leather cover, carbon fibre bucket seats (fitted with 4-point seat-belts), an Alcantara steering wheel, etc. A metal plaque on the dashboard with the inscription ‘World speed record’ completes the package.

Collection by Vermant is exceptionally pleased to be able to offer you this extremely rare Ferrari 550 ‘World Speed Record’ from 1999. This is one of only 23 left-hand-drive specimens worldwide, produced on the occasion of breaking the speed limits in 1998.
This ‘WSR’ was delivered new by MOTOR S.P.A in Modena, Italy, on 27 October 1999. The car is finished in ‘Rosso corso’ with a black leather interior.

This collector’s item has only run 11,150 km up to now, and the car is still in an exceptionally new condition! The car still has its original lacquer layer and stickers, and the entire maintenance history is available. Only 2 owners have enjoyed this car to date, and the latest owner never even registered it!

The 550 was recently put through a major maintenance session, during which all the belts, filters and liquids were replaced. As a result, this rare and iconic car is once again ready for many years of driving pleasure.

This Ferrari comes with a full maintenance history, the ‘WSR’ authenticity report, a 2nd set of keys, all original booklets (service book, warranty book, manuals, etc.), original tools, maintenance invoices, purchase contract, etc.
